How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?
All-on-4 implants work the same way as traditional dental implants: they are surgically inserted into your jawbone so that they can act as artificial roots for replacement teeth. With the All-on-4 procedure, a total of four implant posts are used. The posts near the back of the jaw are inserted at a 45-degree angle, allowing them to take advantage of areas with higher bone density. The four implants will ultimately support a full denture in order to replace all of your teeth at once.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?
A lack of bone density in your jaw can be an obstacle to getting traditional dental implants, but it often isn’t an issue when it comes to the All-on-4 procedure. Thanks to the way the implants are placed, less bone density is required. As a result, even patients who have experienced bone loss in their jaws can be viable candidates for All-on-4 without bone grafting.
Note that you need to have a healthy mouth in order to receive dental implants. If you have gum disease, it must be treated before we can move forward with the All-on-4 procedure.
Benefits of All-on-4 Implants
- Stability: Your new teeth will not slip out of place because they will be secured to sturdy dental implant posts.
- Easy Maintenance: You will be able to give your replacement teeth the same care that you give your natural smile (i.e., brushing and flossing).
- No Bone Loss: Losing teeth can lead to deterioration of your jawbone, but dental implants provide the stimulation needed to put a stop to this process.
- Enhanced Strength: Dental implants have almost as much chewing power as natural teeth, so you will be able to enjoy all kinds of foods.
All-On-4 vs. Traditional Implants
One of the obvious advantages of All-on-4 is that it cuts down on the number of implant posts needed. With traditional methods, six or even eight implants may be required to support a full denture; with All-on-4, the same job can be done with just four implants. On top of that, All-on-4 can often be performed without bone grafting, and it often makes it possible to have a denture placed immediately after you receive your implant posts.
